2024 – A Turbulent Year?

Undeniably, there is a dark cloud that extends far and wide across the planet, and although certain governments, authorities, and the general population struggle to confront it and cleanse the planet of this darkness, unfortunately, it seems to become denser and more difficult to eradicate.

The beginning of this 2024 has not been under the best circumstances. It seems that a dark cloud has covered the planet between the close of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

For instance, it is evident that armed conflicts are happening in various countries around the world, of which perhaps the most widely publicized in international media are two: Russia vs. Ukraine, whose war began in February 2022; and the terrorist attack that Israel experienced since October 2023. Conflicts that show no signs of ending, as resources become scarce and lives are irretrievably lost. Humanly speaking, a solution is not in sight.

russian-and-ukrainian-war-2023-11-27-05-06-51-utcCertainly, Russia vs. Ukraine is just one example of how nation against nation confronts each other, disregarding true sovereign interests and the interests of two peoples who, behind the weapons and attacks, suffer the decisions of opposing governments and conflicting policies.

Of course, the case of Israel is different. Israel has to defend its home from terrorist attacks. After all, who among us would invite a potential terrorist attack on our homes without any opposition? Certainly not! I am sure that if something like that were to happen in our surroundings, we would gather courage, stand firm, and defend our family and loved ones tooth and nail, not allowing such attacks.

These are just two examples of what is happening in the world at this time—seemingly endless conflicts.

But armed conflicts are also happening internally. A case in point is Ecuador. Sadly, the country is experiencing an internal armed conflict as it has openly declared war on terrorists who have been operating in the nation for years.

On the other hand, the dark cloud extends even further over the sky of our world. Did you know that more plagues are already being announced… more viruses, more diseases from this year onwards? Yes, it is regrettable to learn that at least since the second half of last year, more lethal viruses than Covid-19 were already being announced, along with vaccines and medications to combat them.

Unbelievable, right? How did some organizations know well in advance about the next pandemic? Well, for months and even at least a couple of years ago, it was being disseminated with certainty that a new pandemic would strike the world, and it seems that 2024 will be the platform for “this foretold death.”

Let me share two very revealing interventions:

In May 2023, the Director-General of the WHO stated: “Although COVID-19 may no longer be a global public health emergency, countries must still strengthen response to the disease and prepare for future pandemics and other threats…

And on another note, in March 2023, the renowned Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, pointed out: “The world hasn’t done as much to get ready for the next pandemic…I’m optimistic about a network that the W.H.O. and its partners are building called the Global Health Emergency Corps. This network of the world’s top health emergency leaders will work together to get ready for the next ‌‌pandemic.”

Yes, it is truly unbelievable! The more we read and research, for sure, the more surprised we become.

ruined-house-after-an-earthquake-2023-11-27-05-34-34-utcFurthermore, just to complete the picture for now; earthquakes are commonplace. We started this 2024 as if welcoming a turbulent year, with the 7.6 earthquake in Japan that strongly shook the country and, in essence, the world, as if preparing to face strong jolts, not only in terms of earthquakes but in various spheres around the globe.

Undeniably, there is a dark cloud that extends far and wide across the planet, and although certain governments, authorities, and the general population struggle to confront it and cleanse the planet of this darkness, unfortunately, it seems to become denser and more difficult to eradicate.

Unlike the arguments of the “optimists,” the world itself, whether we like it or not, is in decline. Whether we like it or not, its destruction is inevitable. Why?

It’s simple yet controversial for many. The world is increasingly farther from its Creator, increasingly separated from its Sustainer. In fact, its heart is proud of its “achievements,” its “reach,” its “success”; by “progress” in industry, science, technology, and much more. And human beings increasingly crave more power, more pecuniary advantage, more pleasure. Of course, all of this, convinced that they are “self-sufficient” and have the “capacity” to advance and achieve everything they set out to do.

But amid all this “progress,” at the same time, more darkness has become evident. Sadly, amid this decay, even the earth groans. Yes, this is clearly stated in the Word of God: “For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now…” (Romans 8:22).

And how can it not suffer childbirth pains when we see our surroundings falling apart, and the darkness intensifies?

There is only one way, one solution, and that is Christ Jesus. If you, by “chance,” visited our blog or already know us; truly, this is not a coincidence. Let me be emphatic about this: darkness can only be fought with light, and the light is Christ Jesus, who straightforwardly said: “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life” (John 8:12).

The world and the humanity itself are facing a dense darkness; if you want to come out of it, the only way is Jesus. If you do not know Him yet and are interested in doing so, do not hesitate to contact us. Time is running out; today could be your “day out of darkness”, your day of salvation, for tomorrow it may be too late.

To conclude, I invite you to reflect on the following Word:

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” (Matthew 24:6-8)

Christmas in prayer!

“Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people…”

This Christmas, at “Towards Excellence”, we will take time to pray for our faithful readers around the world.

And we pray that the peace of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, the peace that surpasses all understanding, may be poured out in the lives of each of our readers. May Jesus, the Prince of Peace, be manifest in their lives, even in the midst of the turbulence and uncertainties that may be surrounding  them this Christmas season.

For those who already have the privilege of having a personal relationship with Jesus, may that relationship be even more strengthened, may each person set his or her gaze on “things above” and not on earthly things; that in the midst of the confusion that this world lives, their gaze may be placed on the Throne of God, a throne that is immovable. May their trust be in the King of kings, Jesus, and not in the ephemeral governments and systems of this world.

And for those who still do not know Christ and have not established a personal relationship with Him, we pray that all spiritual bandages will be removed from their eyes, and that they may recognize in the depths of their hearts that they are sinners, like everyone else because the Word of God says that “There is no righteous person, not even one”; and that they may come to repentance and to understand the need of salvation for their lives. May Jesus Christ supernaturally reveal Himself in their lives and bring them salvation, peace, joy, and His marvelous light in the midst of the darkness that they are surely facing.

We pray that the miracle of the first Christmas, more than 2000 years ago, will be an extraordinary reality this Christmas, in the heart of each person who decides to dispose his or her heart, as the manger was arranged, to receive the Messiah, the Savior of the world who yearns to be the Savior of their lives.

It is our prayer that we are all willing to listen to the sweet voice of our beloved Jesus, who is knocking today at the door of our hearts; so we clearly and confidently listen: “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people…” (Luke 2:10).

We pray thus in the Name which is above every name, in Jesus Christ!

Panic, Desolation, Hopelessness…Who do You Trust now?

“The crisis surpasses everything that human efforts could do.  And it’s just not the virus itself that causes illness and even sad losses everywhere…”

It’s true that from January 2020, all media and social media have been burdening us with thousands of headlines causing -some of them more than others- fear, anguish, hopelessness; in other words, chaos and instability.

For example, in January, “Fires in Australia are threatening the future of 327 protected species of plants and animals, says the Government.”  Also, in January, “Earthquake in Puerto Rico: How the earthquakes changed the view of the shape of the island from space.”  Later in February, “At least nine people died in Turkey because of the earthquake.  The epicenter was in Iran.”  And, of course, we haven’t been unaware of the widely debated “global warming” topic.

And yes, the earth has indeed faced fires, earthquakes, floods in different zones of the planet, and there’s no doubt that many populations have been affected in different and very critical ways.  But, in any case, each of these problems were specific or have attacked specific places.  And even though their neighbors from all over the world sympathized with them, nobody suffered from these tragedies but the people directly involved or affected.  Thus, it was a sort of sectorial pain, just to give a name to it.

However, lately some other headlines have joined the ones above mentioned: “UK ‘under house arrest’ as coronavirus measures ‘end freedom’”; “Coronavirus in Ecuador: questions and answers about corpse treatment during the health emergency;” or “The pandemic could reduce the world economy by almost 1% in 2020, says the UN.”

Hence, the outlook takes a radical turn, of course.  Headlines of this kind, about a particular topic, start to emerge in different countries around the globe, one after another, minute after minute.  Just like a clock that won’t stop ticking news after news, announcing an “invisible enemy” –COVID-19.

Enemy who, as of press time, has attacked over a million victims and killed 64,743 people worldwide.  An actual tragedy!

But, what kind of enemy is this, coming to disrupt the life of all the inhabitants of the planet like no other has before?  Panic isn’t sectorial anymore, panic is global!  The disaster isn’t sectorial, it’s global!

How can we leave this confinement?  How can we defeat the enemy?  Who can we trust?  These are some questions of all humankind in the midst of this world crisis.  But, despite the good spirits of some people, the high motivation of others, and mostly the amazing good will and self-sacrificing service of some more, and the strategic action of the governments that must be mentioned, of course; nothing is enough to bring well-being, good health or real peace feeling back.

The crisis surpasses everything that human efforts could do.  And it’s just not the virus itself that causes illness and even sad losses everywhere. It’s also the emotional tragedy that has reached families, communities and the entire global environment.

But it is right there, when we as human beings, we have nowhere to turn to and nowhere to go for shelter, when we realize our vulnerability, weakness and powerlessness to face the unknown. That’s when we dive into the deepest of our heart and acknowledge that there’s someone we can and we should turn to.

That someone is God.  And the word “god” might be too “shabby,” too “underused”, or too “decontextualized.”  Does the world have a true understanding and knowledge of who God is?  Does the world really understand the essence and greatness of God, the Creator of heavens and earth, the universe and everything that exists?

If indeed humanity understood the magnificence of this God, they would join yesteryear’s Psalmist, David, and cry out from the depths of their heart in these times of crisis:

“ I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth!”

The Lord keeps you from all harm
    and watches over your life.

 (Psalm 121:1-2,7  NLT)

When we come to understand that we ran out of “human” resources, in the midst of this pandemic, there’s no wiser action than turning to the Creator of all humankind.  There’s no wiser action than turning to the One who gives life, the One who saves and heals, the One from whom flows true peace.

There’s no other way than turning to the true and almighty God, to Jesus Christ, the Life itself, the Savior of the world, the Prince of peace!

While the news proclaim panic, desolation, hopelessness; only those who put their trust in the Eternal God, the Creator of heaven and earth, will have the strength to proclaim serenity, consolation and hope; always understanding that their protection comes from above, from their Creator.

“You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord Himself, is the Rock eternal.”

(Isaiah 26:3-4  NIV)

Christmas…The World´s Savior in a Manger!

The Only Reason for Christmas!

Christmas…

Over 2,000 years ago, humankind celebrated the first Christmas in history. ¡The only and true Savior was born! The one whose main purpose was to release this planet from the worse exterminator…sin.

The wages of sin is death. But, Jesus, the Savior came to give us life and life to the full.

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;  for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.                (Romans 10:9-10)
